LEP2 Program Requirements and Applicant Information
The LEP2 Certificate Program is designed for individuals听passionate听about听advancing听maternal and infant health.听To be eligible,听applicants must complete prerequisite coursework aligned with IBLCE standards and听maintain听active health insurance while enrolled in the program.听
The LEP2 program is completed over two semesters鈥擣all and Spring鈥攔unning from August through May.听
Yes, the program curriculum is aligned with the educational requirements for eligibility to sit for the IBLCE exam. It includes structured in-person skills training and an exam preparation bootcamp. Faculty will assess student progress and provide recommendations听regarding听exam readiness and timing prior to registration.听
Please note:听The following foundational health science topics are required for eligibility to sit for the IBCLC exam but are not included within the LEP2 curriculum: (1) medical documentation, (2) medical terminology, (3) ethics for health professionals, (4) occupational safety,(5)听 universal safety precautions, and (6) infection control. Course faculty will review and verify completion of these requirements prior to recommending students for exam readiness. These health science topics can be met via college courses or continuing听education.听听
International听Board Certified听Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) are听important members听of the maternal-child health team听specialising听in breastfeeding care. IBCLCs have diverse backgrounds and work in a variety of settings, but all have met rigorous eligibility requirements and passed an examination that assesses knowledge in breastfeeding management. Working together with families, policymakers, and the community, IBCLCs provide expert breastfeeding and lactation care and advance global public health.听听
Applicants must complete college-level coursework in the following areas before admission:听

Human Physiology听
Infant and Child Development听
Nutrition听
Psychology, Counseling, or Communication听
Sociology or Cultural Studies听
Research or Evidence-Based Practice听
At this time, the LEP2 program is not eligible for federal financial aid for the 2026鈥2027 academic year. We encourage applicants to connect with the Financial Aid Office to explore alternative funding options, including private loans and external scholarships.
